Vinyl usually costs more than wood on install day. It also never needs stain, sealer or paint. Over the life of the fence that math tends to come out in vinyl's favor, and it is worth thinking about in those terms rather than just comparing the estimate.
Solid privacy panels are the common ask for back yards. Colonial picket suits a front yard where you want a boundary and not a wall. Horizontal board reads more modern and works well on newer builds.
Vinyl gets more brittle when it is very cold, which matters for how it is handled during installation more than how it lives in your yard. It is one more reason posts and footers need to be done properly the first time.
